Blast from the past
August 27th, 2008 at 10:57pm WapakGram
My Aunt Miriam showed up at my door this last week. She is 80 and lives 3 hours away in Detroit. She had been working on my dear departed Grandma’s scrapbooks and found items in there that were about me. She had a box, tied in twine, for my Dad. Since she had never been to my house before, I was somewhat surprised to see her. And I was in my PJ’s.
My Grandma has been dead for 11 years and Aunt Miriam just got through the FIRST of the scrapbooks. She gets easily distracted! She thought I might like some of the items back. Bob knows how many years until I see anything else.
There I was in second grade, a member of the Von Trapp family in the high school musical. My campaign literature from my school board runs. The pictures of me winning Miss Wapakoneta. Yep! I have my OWN TIARA! The best part was my Grandma’s little comments on the side. Only a few words, but just so precious. I was always writing poems and she had so many of them…..how she got them to keep- I’ll never know.
I have had a lot of changes in my life this year, as you all know. Getting the treasures from my Grandma, and reading the love in the comments..(”Wasn’t she pretty, but her skirt was a bit short.” was my favorite in my cheerleading picture. *snort*)- was a GREAT and NEEDED Blast from the Past. Life is still all a lot to deal with, but thanks for sending Grandma. I feel better when she is around.
Have you ever reached in an unused purse or coat pocket and found something that brought back great memories for you? Find anything while cleaning out old closets or attics? Besides mismatched shoes and cat fur- (my usual!)
I think if MAX! ever looks back on his Gamma’s life, he will find himself pretty well adored. The other two to come are progressing well- doctors say momma’s all healthy and happy. And an adoring Gamma waiting for them to appear.
Speaking of Adoring Gamma’s…….17 month old MAX!

Wapak - what a wonderful surprise!!
I have found money. When going to lunch from work, I tend to put money in my pocket and leave my purse locked up at work. If I forget to retrieve change from my pocket, it stays there until I wear the item of clothing again.
Memories of the past are well organized and in their place. (It drives me* crazy to be disorganized. I’m the one at work with the clean desk and everything filed - my co-workers sneer!)
Max is ADORABLE!!! We would like to see your pictures also!! Hoping you have a scanner…
2. cbpen | August 28th, 2008 at 1:53 am
I tend to find notes and beginnings of stories. The trouble is: I usually have NO IDEA where I was going when I started them.
3. theresa | August 28th, 2008 at 2:45 am
What nice memories to have found their way to you!
And really, I don’t think it’s possible for MAX! to be any cuter! What a smile!
4. Andi | August 28th, 2008 at 7:46 am
Theresa - I, too, love the little special fruits and veggies! I’m growing heirloom purple-ish stripey tomatos! The meaty part is really satiny, not at all mealy or pulpy - just yummy! Lots ‘y’ in that sentence!
GP - thanks for the Gabaldon link! I am reading the last of the Lord John books right now. That woman is some kinda smart - or just unbelievably meticulous in her quest for research and authentic detail.
Wapa - My gramma didn’t want any arguing over stuff after she died. She was an artist and I have two pieces displayed backwards because I love the way she wrote ‘Andi” in grease pencil on the backs of what I had chosen. I feel better with her around, also.
And Max is very handsome with all that hair and those dimples!
BCB - yuck! You know you get sent home from school if you have pink eye, if you wanted to I bet you could skip out on work for a day! What?…me slacking and trying to lure the good worker people to my way of life? Well, sure.
5. jenb | August 28th, 2008 at 8:24 am
Wapak, so glad that such wonderful memories found the path to your door.
I guess my pack-rattyness (sp?) may not be a bad thing after all. Or it can be my excuse at this point anyway.
I just wonder with all the email and such will the next generations have the paper to hold and remember. Writing and sending seems to be out of style for the moment.
GP, yes thank you for the link. I have made it a favorite.
And MAX, well what can you say he is gorgeous period.
BCB, you are taking care of yourself the same way you would if it was one of your sweet kids? Right.
Hi Lou!!!!
6. McB | August 28th, 2008 at 10:36 am
MAX! Pics!! that’s what I needed to brighten up this dreary day. Wapak, it sounds like someone came through with a pick-you-up just when you needed it.
Okay, I put another pot of coffee on, if anyone else needs. And a selection of bagels. This is already a long day and it’s still morning.
7. McB | August 28th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
It’s so quiet in here today, I think everyone must be feeling like I do. I’m just barely resisting the urge to curl up under my desk and sleep the afternoon away.
8. GatorPerson | August 28th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Helpful hint for those of you getting poked with a big needle. Don’t we all at some point? Just before the poke, start counting backwards from 10. It really does distract me* and lessens the poke pain.
That MAX! He’s such a cutie. His smile is one to brighten anyone’s day.
Anybody interested in the Gabaldon link, it’s in the last comment of the previous post. Super useful for those CBs writing stuff. I remember we briefly discussed place being important. She does a bangup good job.
While on my family reunion trip last Thansgiving, I saw a pic my cousin had mounted of my GF and GM, probably on their wedding day taken around 1900. Is it ok to say my GF was a hunk? Well, that makes me* feel somewhat sacriligious. Ducking the lightening that’s sure to strike. And yesterday was my DM’s birthday. She would have been 99. Do you all observe the birthdays of departed relatives?
Saw Ratatouille while giving platelets. I can’t identify with herds of rats cooking for humans in a restaurant. Probably my pest control background. Yuck!

Aha! Found it.

What a morning. The 2 hour meeting lasted 3, and went into the lunch hour. I’m glad I don’t have to go to those too often.
Max is adorable, and just keeps getting cuter.
I need to go eat lunch now. Talk more later.
11. me | August 28th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
My last bvlast from the past was when I dug out a tiny little purse to take to the Bon Jovi concert…and found the tricket from the last Bon Jovi concert.
Max is too cute. Is he already 17 months old?! How did that happen?
My tip for getting poked with a big needle is to avoid it at all costs.
Where is everyone today? Are they all as tired as I am?
12. me | August 28th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
or, blast and ticket…I need a nap.

Hey - I got very little useful done today, on account of having made a financial error (note to self: when making subtraction errors, avoid doing so in the 4th digit to the left!) which seems to have already messed up my credit. Oops. But two banks, two faxes, 2 phones (office phone was set on those stupid little clicks, so I couldn’t do phone trees - I didn’t find the switch ’til afterwards) and a wire transfer later, I have, at least, resolved the initial problem. Oh, well, I wasn’t planning to do anything with my credit anyway. I hope. Now I just have to figure out how to close the account. On the phone, woman said, “Just walk into any location”. Well, there AREN’T any closer than Champaign. Back in Illinois. But I’ll figure that out another day.
Gotta make cookies tonight for a picnic tomorrow, but must also buy ingredients. I haven’t decided between the Monster Cookies and some Pampered Chef ones that look REALLY tasty (and are special for this season’s Decadent Desserts theme parties). I should be on the way to the supermarket, but I had a long meeting and so am gathering my willpower for the walk.
Theresa: I DID walk across the upper part of Illinois (Rockford to the lake). NOW I’m doing the vertical distance. If I had known I’d be walking so much and that Ohio didn’t have a similar program, perhaps I’d've started with the vertical, but I didn’t. There’s still a VERY long way to go! 1.4 miles each way, or 3 miles or so if I hit Kroger on the way home. It adds up, but 595 miles is quite a distance.
I find things that bring back pleasant memories often - it’s part of my problem, that I have trouble getting rid of that stuff, even if I no longer use/ wear it. I probably will, again someday, right?
14. BCB | August 28th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Today was effing sucky awful. The owner was in town today. All day. My boss is his son. They are . . . not sure how to say this politely . . . they are having a severe difference of opinion on several very touchy subjects. But instead of discussing it like mature adults and finding a resolution, they — grrrr — they make everyone within hearing distance miserable. I kept wishing one of them would just leave already. Well, at least it kept my mind off other things.
Yes, JenB, mom, I am taking care of myself. Went to the doctor on Tuesday, got prescription antibiotic eye drops, mostly remembering to use them, stayed home Tuesday as ordered. Eye is somewhat better today.
Wapak, that MAX! is just adorable. Thanks for sharing the pics. I don’t think I can talk about mementos right now. But I’m so glad you have some of a special person in your life.
My house is very quiet tonight. Too quiet. Probably I’ll turn on the radio and cook something. That always makes me feel better.
15. McB | August 28th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
BCB - One of my favorite things to listen to, and relisten to, when I need to take my mind of things is Mr. Diety. Very very funny, not PC but not mean. Google it and listen to the short (3-4 minute) episodes over the internet. They do poke fun at religion, but in an affectionate thought provoking way that - well, I was going to say “doesn’t offend” but we all know that there are people out there who are the exception that proves the rule.
Glad to hear the eyes are a bit better. Take it easy on them. Sorry your day was sucky. Fix yourself a drink and relax now.
16. RSS | August 28th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Glad your Aunt Miriam dropped by with some happy memories for you Wapak. MAX! just gets cuter and cuter. Love the pictures.
Sorry you are having such a crappy week BCB. Glad your eye is getting better. That apple at work didn’t fall far from the tree did it?
Enjoying having rain finally. Curled up with two good books by C.L. Wilson The Lord of the Fading Lands and the Lady of Light and Shadows. Highly recommend them if you like Fantasy. The third in the series comes out end of Sept/beginning of Oct. Can’t wait.
Lou, I’d send you some rain but we’re so low that I’m hoping it hangs around here for at least a couple of days.
17. btuda | August 28th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
We’re in for rain tomorrow, so I mowed the lawn today. Yep, I’m pooped.
My favorite blast from the past: my sister recently uncovered my dad’s parents’ wedding picture. I love it. It isn’t your traditional wedding photo with the white gown, but grandma is wearing a very lovely dress and grandpa is in a suit. It’s probably taken in the 20s or 30s and is very dapper.
Geez, has Max grown. And my eggs are feeling a little dusty.
I’ve got some good news: I got the assistant manager position at the candle store. It’s still only part time so I can still hit the job search hard while having an income.
I actually bought a few things for myself today. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to do that, that it feels a little like Christmas. Yay me. Better yet, yay clearance sales.
Later, everyone.
18. glamour-geek | August 28th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Yay, btuda! Woohoo!
I have (still, yet, again) been working very long hours. I went in at 8:15 today, expecting to leave around 5 and go to the gym. No such luck. Left at 6:25 and then since there was a grass fire earlier on the island about mid-way across the bridge, traffic was completely snarled. Despite radio traffic reports saying “minimum 1 to 1-1/2 hours to get through the city and to the bridge”, I actually got home in about an hour.
Without traffic it takes 20 minutes. Woof!
And even though I have more to do tomorrow than I can cram into a 20-hour day, much less an 8-hour one, I am working from home, starting early, ending early, and getting the (#**$%(*)(#$ out of dodge with beau! I hope to log off around 3 or 3:30. And what I get done, I get done.
My boss asked if we could maybe talk Monday before he has to give a huge report (which means a lot of info from us on his team) on Tuesday, and I had to let him know I’d be out of both email and phone reach all weekend. He seemed surprised, but accepted it.
Now I just have to see if I can carpool with co-workers on Tuesday so I have a hard stop at 5 and get in at 9, because that’s when my carpool goes… it’s a great way of controlling your work hours, I’m finding.
Excellent news today: one of my co-workers and her beau have been working on an application for Google’s Android platform. She’s been doing it after hours; he’s been doing it full time. They had made the top 50 about 1-1/2 months ago. Today the winners were announced and they made the top 20, which means $100K in winnings (which basically pays for all the time he’s put in on it without a salary, but still…). Considering there were about 1800 initial entries into the competition, this is HUGE! We’re all so excited for her and very impressed.
Happy Labor Day Weekend to everyone with hugs from me!
19. theresa | August 29th, 2008 at 3:13 am
GG - Have a great weekend with Beau! The cutting off work and phone thing to go away is something I’ve always have a hard time doing. Good for you for being able to do this when the pressure is on!
Btuda - Yaaaaayyyyy!! That must be a huge relief.
BCB - So sorry that yesterday was so sucky! Makes you wish you could just teleport them both to Antartica, huh? If only for an hour or so. It would give you some peace and maybe cool them off a bit. Hope today is better and that your eye continues to improve!
I LOVED the C.L. Wilson books!! Loved them!! I have reread them so many times already! I’m planning to have my sister bring me the 3rd book when she comes in October. I also keep checking her website hoping she’ll have put up an excerpt for the 4th book. Yes, I can obsess with the best of them.
BTW, I recently read Son of the Morning based on the the positive recommendations of several of you here. It was really, really good! Talk about a character arc! After the Jenny and Bob class, I could consiously see the arc and change of the herione and how it made for such a powerful story.
Yesterday my brain felt tired and fuzzy all day, resulting in me getting not much done at all. Let’s hope today is better!
20. K.L. | August 29th, 2008 at 9:09 am
I hate my foot. Well, I hate what happened to it. I thought I was getting a mild case of athletes foot, and treated it for 3 days. On day 4 (yesterday) it had spread across my foot and was very swollen. Went to the doctor. He thinks I got bit by a spider. Yuck. There was a big blood blister under my toes he had to drain. Luckily it was not infected pus, just blood and clear fluid. It looks like I’m having a reaction to the toxin. I have a heat type rash on my other foot and it is showing up elsewhere on my body. The doctor has me on antibiotics, but is not sure it will help. He said if it gets worse to go in to the ER. Great.
I’m taking the day off from work today. A bucket of warm water and epsom salts has my name on it.
21. Diane (TT) | August 29th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Obviously I need to explore this CL Wilson thing (does CL make anyone else think of Tell Me Lies? I have now reserved both books - in Large Print, because that’s what’s not Checked Out.
Good luck to everyone’s work situations! Such an important part of how we spend our time, but we don’t get to choose all of our co-workers, and a lot of rough comes with smooth on other facets of the job, too (hours, commute, funny smells).
This morning I keep getting paranoid that I’m going to miss my 11 a.m. meeting, because the time seems to be going slowly…
Had we talked about Mr. Deity here before? I know I spent quite a while last spring watching them online, but can’t remember how they came to be on my radar. I do like the relationships, and Lucy is a hoot!
I wish awesome days for everyone!
Oh, and my peppermint fudge sandwich cookies (for the picnic) turned out quite easy and good. Of course, I had to test them both hot out of the oven and cool - it wouldn’t be fair to my colleagues not to.
22. me | August 29th, 2008 at 10:17 am
KL YUCK Here’s hoping no ER is needed.
For a second I could not figure out why Mr Diety talked about religion. LOL.
btuda great news!
BCB sorry it’s been a crappy week.
OK, we’re not allowed to talk politics here, are we? I shouldn’t, anyway, because it ticks me off. Like now. Alaska. Humph. The ONLY reason he picked HER was the OTHER HER did all the work and then got nothing. Not saying I like one person over the other, just saying that if SOMEONE had picked HER instead of HIM, then HE would not have picked HER. If SHE had not run, we never would have even heard of HER. I know it’s redundant to say it, but it’s all political. ARGH.
OK, shutting up now. Sorry about that.
23. RSS | August 29th, 2008 at 10:46 am
ME, that’s what went through my mind when I saw who had been picked. Great minds, doncha know.
The cookies sound yummy Diane.
(((K.L))) Please take care of it. Do you guys have brown recluse spiders out there? Their bites can be really nasty.
GG–Have a wonderful, wonderful weekend.
Btuda–Hooray. That’s great news.
Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend.
24. MinO | August 29th, 2008 at 10:48 am
{{{{CBs everywhere}}}}
Hope you all get some kind of break this weekend and can enjoy something of your choosing for a while.
I’m playing hookey for the weekend, and going with friends and DDs to Branson. No stress, just going to walk around Silver Dollar City and ride rides, see shows, and EAT junk food.
Feel better everyone.
And, can I just say that the Paperback copy of Agnes is almost as pretty as the hardcover!
25. K.L. | August 29th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Me, I thought the exact same thing. I think I’ll go back to watching the Canadian channel. I’m so tired of the politics.
Brown Recluse spiders are not common up here, and if that had been what bit me*, I’m pretty sure the reaction would have been much worse. I will probably never know what type of spider bit me, but I do know an allergic reaction when I see one, and that rash I have is very common with a reaction to something the body finds toxic. I itch. Maybe I will go take an anti itch pill and go sleep for a while.
26. GatorPerson | August 29th, 2008 at 11:21 am
I suppose you all are referring to the D. convention.
Since I don’t watch television, I have absolutely no idea who he, she, and it are. Well, I know where Alaska is, unlike some CBs whom I won’t name. Like that “whom?” Today I gots class.
And, FYI, Alaska is an island somewhat southeast of Florida and north of Maine. Very sucessible to hurricanes.
27. Diane (TT) | August 29th, 2008 at 11:56 am
GP - no, Alaska is a Republican topic. Sarah Palin (R, AK) was chosen as McCain’s running mate.
28. Diane (TT) | August 29th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
But some of the HEs and HERs are Democrats.
29. Diane (TT) | August 29th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
OMG! I totally forgot - I went to Kroger last night and left the Natural Foods aisle for the regular candy aisle (I didn’t even look to see if there were NF equivalents to starlight mints and York peppermint patties).
Hershey’s, in addition to all the Reserve varieties, now has both milk and dark ORGANIC squares! And the big news, to me, was the PREMIUM M&Ms (justly named, for they certainly demand a price premium: $3.99/ 6 oz.). But they look very snazzy and sound interesting. It took me an entire google search page to find the actual M&Mssite description. I thought the shape was different, but that seems to just be the nutty ones.
Also some very interesting Dove Desserts, unfortunately neither organic nor fairly traded. I bought one of those and a Lindt Orange bar.
And tomorrow, I may be going to Jungle Jim’s, in Fairfield (I think), which is said to have TWO AISLES of chocolate.
30. Diane (TT) | August 29th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Oops. Didn’t close the link, I guess. But since no one else is here today…
Happy weekend, everyone!
31. McB | August 29th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Had the day from H*E*double toothpicks. Somehow have retained my sigmund frued … that’s French more something. To wit, I have arrived at the B&G via the trail of breadcrumbs because I’m am using the internet at the dealership service center. But for all the ugly stuff (and I’m still awaiting the estimate so how ugly is yet to be determined) there were a few bright spots. Like my service center provided free hot chocolate and internet. But once I’m home again I’m hitting the liquid fruits and veggies, and I ain’t talking V8 juice.
TT - I might have mentioned Mr. Diety before as I’m a fan. Eagerly awaiting season 3. I love how they make you see things from another perspective.
I didn’t watch the conventions but I have caught the news. Yeah, the new she does seem rather obviously reactionary. Which isn’t a political commentary since that bit of news was about as subtle as a 2×4 to the face. Doesn’t mean she wouldn’t do a good job; but she’ll have to deal with the eye rolls.
32. CMS | August 29th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
(((McB))) have a margarita. Rocks lots of salt just like you like ‘em. LEt that dear kilted man peel the odd grape for you.
Must have been that kind of a day. We’ve all had need of liquid fruit and veggies. I drank a pink grapefruit vokda cooler because I was thirsty and that was handiest. Yep, hand me another.

What are you all doing today? It’s so quiet over here.
34. GatorPerson | August 30th, 2008 at 9:44 am
So I was walking Mr. Darcy last night in the dark. When it’s totally dark I have him on a leash, even though he has the underground fence to keep him inside. He’s a little freaky when there’s an unexpected sound or smell or sight, and can run like the wind. We tripped into a tomato cage about 15 feet from the garden. What? Eventually I took him in, got a flashlight and went back out. Sure enough something had dragged a 5′ X 3′ cage out of the garden. Looks like deer prints to me. These varmints have big racks of antlers, all 5 of them. So one must have tangled with the cage, pulled it out of the ground, and tossed and turned until he freed himself. Now I know why my tomatoes keep getting nipped back at the cages.
Tidying up the house since DD#2 arrives tonight, and Thanksgiving is tomorrow.
Um, CMS, how many significant political parties are there in Canada? I can decide if having no parties at all or else a gazillion of them might help the political process here.
35. McB | August 30th, 2008 at 10:32 am
I’m here. Ran some errands this morning but am planning to take the rest of the day off. The sun is out and I’m hoping it will dry out the chairs on the deck so that I can sit out there this afternoon and read my new Margaret Maron!!
So, mom is visiting my sister for the long weekend. Was taking her to the airport yesterday a.m. when I skidded in the rain - wasn’t even going very fast ’cause we were still in the ‘hood - tires hit the curb at just the right angle to blow it. Limped back to the house to call a cab to get us to the airport. Flight ends up being delayed anyway so I hung around the airport until Mom finally borded. Took subway (goes right to National Airport) and two buses home. Called tow truck, ‘cuz the tire looked like it had only a passing acquaintance with the rim at that point. Hang out at dealership waiting for the bad news. Could have been way worse, but from what they could tell I need two new tires (the blown one good only for several pairs of really ugly men’s sandals and the other still inflated but damaged and not safe), and a new wheel. Since I’m getting two tires anyway and they were having a buy 3 get one free sale, it looks like I’m just getting 4 new ones. Then of course they’ve got to do the whole alignment thing and I’m crossing my fingers they don’t discover more damage.
On the plus side I get a free loaner and it’s a PT Cruiser! Very cool. Two things I would recommend they change: (1) relocate the cup holders which are awkwardly placed and (2) fix the gate on the back so that you can adjust to height to which it opens. Certainly opens too high for me.
Howsomever, I can now enjoy a quiet weekend with all errands run and 3 new books to read. 3 because in addition to the MM, I’ve also got the new JAK/Jayne Castle and I discovered that there was a brand new Dick Francis out as well!! I picked up some sesame noodle salad and a Digiorno frozen pizza. They say it’s as good as delivery; we’ll see.
36. Louis | August 30th, 2008 at 10:45 am
You’ll enjoy the new JAK/Jayne Castle..that “Elvis” is a blast. Picked it up yesterday along with the newest Stephanie Laurens, a new Tara Janzen, the new L L Foster, and the newest Anne Gracie.
Finished “Dark Light” last night. Excellent read.
This morning is cloudy and thundery…looks like rain…probably not here, but up in the hills.
On my first cup of coffee.
37. Lou | August 30th, 2008 at 10:58 am
HI JENB!! Hope everything is good with you - I’m reading a book that is set in the “low country.” It talks about the heat and humidity (and sweat). As much as I find the low country fascinating, I think I’d have to visit it during the winter!!
I’ve been in training the last two days. My unit just inherited an old but still functioning application from the Dept. of Finance (State of CA). Instead of being built in .NET and SQL (the latest cool programming web-based tools), it’s built completely in Access 2003 - it’s a real antique. But we have to maintain it - hence the training. The training center where I was is a great facility! Good classrooms, great teachers, excellent computers, and Internet access so that a person can access their work email and stay in touch. They also have a barbeque once a week where they usually cook hot dogs, have fresh vegetables (and I mean fresh - they grow their own in a garden out back), and chips and salsa. Plus, every morning they have coffee and a morning snack. Then every afternoon, they have cookies. I love having training there!! I go next Thursday and Friday also.
I am so sorry folks have having sucky days. There’s very little worse than having to listen to two supposed adults bicker like little kids - and in that situation there’s almost always some sort of fallout. And it’s all on top of feeling awful anyway and having hurt eyes. {{{{BCB}}}}. Have a restful three-day weekend!!
btuda - good for you, you go girl!!
K.L. - Yikes, that sounds icky!! Hope the hot water and epson salts work!!
me - yup, so true!!
kWow - GP - those deer are really pesky!!
38. Lou | August 30th, 2008 at 11:06 am
I also enjoyed the new Jayne Castle. Loads of fun! I’m waiting with great anticipation for JoAnn Ross’ new book Crossfire. It will have a secondary character’s (from a previous book) final HEA - a story I’ve been looking forward to.
Louis - do you like L.L. Foster’s new stuff? I haven’t read those yet. Are they good? I like Lori’s other books…
And yes, I know, “Wow” doesn’t start with a “k”…
39. McB | August 30th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Btuda - congrats on gettig the position!
K.L. - blech, please take care. That doesn’t sound good at all.

Lou, do you care that I’ve designed a number of Access applications? Antique, indeed!
K. L. be careful. I have a friend here who got recluse brown spider bit. It took a long time and bunches of meds for her to get over it. Hie yourself to the emergency room if you feel at all icky or the bite spot looks at all strange.
42. BCB | August 30th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Spent today trying to recover from the past two at work and generally trying to keep busy so there’s no time to think too much. Thanks, Lou, you are a sweetheart.
I read an excerpt from the first LL Foster book (in the back of a Lori Foster book) a long while ago and had been keeping an eye out for it but somehow missed it. Will have to track it down. Just bought the second one and am looking forward to reading it. Very different voice.
The rest of you all please stay clear of rampaging spiders and deer and, um, curbs. Sheesh, McB, probably you should stick to navigating.
It’s storming here and I’m going to go sit and listen to it for a while.
43. McB | August 30th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
when they say digiorno ain’t delivery they aren’t kidding. That was pretty bad.
BCB staying busy is good. Don’t make decisions, no mental work, and don’t start throwing things away. Stick with physical, routine chores.
You’re never going to let me drive now, are you?
44. Lou | August 30th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
GP - you wonderful intelligent woman you - .NET and SQL are the wave of the future for web-based applications. And web-based applications are what are being used for all the CA state applications, because most everything is on-line here. We have just a few data centers handling all the data for the state and all the state departments. The other state departments are hooked into our network, through which quite a few employees access this application. Programmers who look to the future want to code in .NET and use SQL databases - so they consider Access 2003 an antique. Sorry…
BCB - I’m listening to the storm with you - virtually. I LOVE storms (as long as they are not hurricanes or tornados - just normal storms). Once, when we were living in Southern Oregon, we had a he** of a storm come through. Rain blowing sideways, thunder and lightening everywhere (hitting the ground). We spent most of the night in the barm making sure the horses were OK. It was wild… One of my clearest memories of when we lived there.
45. Lou | August 30th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
That is… in the “barn”… It was such an exciting night because no one was hurt, the horses were fine, and it all blew through about 1 o’clock in the morning.
46. BCB | August 30th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
McB: Nope.
Too late about the advice not to throw things away — pretty much what I did all day. It needed to be done.
Just got off the phone with DD. Yes, it’s late. Doesn’t matter. Her BF is from New Orleans. They are frantic for news about the hurricane and its path. News coverage about that is spotty down there in Argentina. His mom and brothers have evacuated to Birmingham, but his dad is an ER doc in Thibodaux (west of NO) and is staying. Because, you know, that’s what heroes do. Him and the dog. So if any of you have a prayer to spare, please send it in that direction.
Not sure how many more tearful phone calls I can handle. As many as come, I guess.
47. theresa | August 31st, 2008 at 2:10 am
K.L. - How is the foot healing up? Quickly I hope.
Aw, BcB. It’s so tough being a mom. Have you started looking up the cost of flights to Argentina yet?
(Rereading the above, it may sound a bit snarky, but really, it’s not!)
Nowadays, I often think of the stress and worry that I’ve put my parents through over the years, especially my mom. And I was a good kid! Grad school for me was also pretty rough on my mom. She’s going through it again now with my younger sister. Poor mom. She says she doesn’t worry anymore, that she prays, but I don’t quite believe her. You know, I never asked how she felt during that semester I was in Japan. Hmmm. Mom never let her fears and worries hold me back from doing and experiencing.
Ok, enough rambling. Perhaps I should do something about cleaning up this kitchen of mine.
48. McB | August 31st, 2008 at 7:48 am
yep the older I get the more I appreciate how brave my mother has been over the years. For herself she’s a wuss. For her kids, she’s Wonder Woman. I never knew until adulthood how many of her ownfears she overcame because she didn’t want us to have her fears.
BCB I’ll be keeping BFs dad in my prayers.
49. BCB | August 31st, 2008 at 9:27 am
Yeah, there’s no holding her back even if I wanted to. Which I don’t. But it’s really hard when they want you to tell them everything will be okay and you just can’t. Surely they’ve made changes in NO so that things won’t be as bad as Katrina, right? (The cynic in me is laughing, cynically, and saying nasty things about the people in charge.) It’s got to be tough, having gone through that, seeing first-hand the devastation of a place you love, watching it try to re-build, and now sitting helplessly while it appears it’s about to happen again. Knowing your dad is not leaving this time. Honestly, I don’t know whether he left last time. I never asked. BF spent his senior year of HS at a school in DC because his school was destroyed. He has some pics of NO that you just would not believe — both of the absolute ruin of the place and of the hope and joy of parts that have been re-built.
Well. When there’s nothing you can do, it’s time to go do something else. Off to tackle more stuff.
50. Diane (TT) | August 31st, 2008 at 11:31 am
KL, I missed the icky details of your spider bite the first time (sometimes my eye skips over things - I found myself singing the second line of the third verse in the middle of the second verse at church this morning!). Take care and be wary - that stuff can be nasty. Well, it’s already nasty, and we don’t want it to get worse!
McB - sorry about your car and tiresome time (I didn’t do that on purpose, but I’m leaving it in on purpose) at the dealership - and the non-consolatory pizza! I almost never get pizza, because I can’t stop myself eating it until I get sick, but the frozen variety I remember liking (probably more than 5 years ago, so who knows) was Freschetta with tomato sauce in the edge of the crust (I can’t eat crust stuffed with cheese, that’s too much for my insides). But I’m glad that your mom made the plane OK!
BCB - I’m glad that you’re finding something useful to do to cope - and I certainly hope all is well with your DD’s BF’s DF (?). The youth group at the church I’m attending has been down to help with Katrina repair 3 x, and they, too, are worried about the residents they’ve helped being in the path of Gustav.
GP - wow on those deer. When they get so obstreperous, it’s hard to know what the best thing is - although I’m in favor of reintroducing wolves, that might be tough on Mr. Darcy. I think they make dogs nervous… Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a wonderful time with your family.
Lou -your training facility sounds lovely! A very nice place to go. I’m going to a work thing at a nearby place called “The Lodge”, which at least has a pleasantly rustic name - we’ll see.
I’m going to Jungle Jim’s this afternoon! I thought I might go yesterday with a colleague, but that didn’t happen, but I got a call a little while ago, so that should be a grocery adventure.
51. McB | August 31st, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Well, because of BCB I ended up calling a friend in FL this morning who has family outside of NO. They had been hard hit with Katrina and I knew she’d be worried. Ended up on the phone for 4 hours. She has indeed been stressing and worrying - her mom works in a hospital and is planning to stay there for the duration. I think we were able to get her mind off things for a bit and had a few laughs.
52. Lou | August 31st, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Thankfully, the National Guard has been called out and is already there (N.O.), after storm supplies have already been stockpiled, buses are already evacuating people that can’t get out themselves (animals will be allowed on the buses this time), hospitals have already been evacuated as much as possible, all the animal shelters have been evacuated, and both people and animal rescuers are standing by as close as possible. At least everyone learned their lesson last time and matters seem to be being taken care of this time. The destruction to property is always heart-breaking, but I believe that most of the people and pets will be safe. I hope that your DD’s BF’s Dad will be OK, and the dog will be in a safe place.
Of course, hurricanes have been known to change direction at the last minute, or die down to a tropical storm sometimes, so we will hope…
53. Lou | August 31st, 2008 at 3:08 pm
And yes, BF’s Dad is certainly a hero!!
54. Lou | August 31st, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Merry - from time to time I think back on the summer solstice whack and I remember your neighborhood fondly. Where you live has such a lovely small-town atmosphere with the required interestingly eclectic neighbors. And your backyard has such a peaceful feeling to it…
We have had a lot of deserted houses around our neighborhood (where I live was particularly hard hit by the housing crisis). Slowly but surely, they have been purchased and now have people living in them. Except for the house two houses down from me. It has been deserted for probably about two years, burgled many times, and is in a state of disrepair. I walked by there last night (with my dog), and it has an auction sign on it (YAY). Finally maybe someone will buy it and fix it up and it will be lived in again. I can only hope…

Been reading a lot of books lately before I go back to school and don’t have time. One that caught my attention was a YA called The Road of the Dead by Kevin Brooks. Very fascinating. (His other books, not so much.)

cc- I’ve had those feelings before, and 99.9999999% of the time nothing happens. I won’t tell you to ignore it because feelings are real even if there’s nothing really there. But know that sometimes the fight or flight signals are chemical, or a delayed reaction. Don’t read more into it until or unless there is cause.

65. McB | September 1st, 2008 at 6:35 am

Here are some fantastic photos to brighten up your day. Gorgeous scenery, nary a man in a kilt but this blog always makes me want to spend the day with my camera
I need to go run Ky before I take him to meet the dog whose owner is dying. The man called me at work yesterday and suggested I bring Ky to the beach to meet Pop. I’m super nervous, which Cary will tell you is a a bad thing. The dogs could easily misinterpret it. I got great advice from the dog trainer at work. She said,”You’re a writer. Write a happy ending with tails wagging, lots of laughter, good vibes. Give Ky his lines before hand so he knows what his role is in this movie.” So I pitched it to him last night. We both thought a good run before hand to get the nervous jitters out would be a good plan. I’ll report back in later but think positive please. It could very easily mean the difference between life and death for Pop. NO pressure here eh?

Another beautiful day in the neighborhood. I might actually leave the house today, but I’m trying to spend as much time on the deck as possible. The new JAK was great fun and the new Maron is living up to her reputation.

CMS - Sending good and calming thoughts your way, for you and Ky and Pop. Maybe a nice calming cup of chamomile tea for you?
70. CMS | September 1st, 2008 at 11:34 am
That didn’t go as well as I’d hoped but much better than I feared. We met down at the beach, beneath a willow tree. Ky was overwhelmed by all the people, the boats, the kids, the scooter that looks just like Scope’s. Fur flew on both sides. Poor Pop was afraid of Ky’s bark. My boy really does need to be desensitized to other dogs. He’s so mouthy. BY the end of the hour he’d stopped barking at every dog he saw. Pop was sitting closer and Ky was chewing on a ball. Next time should be much better. If we can introduce them gradually at some point it should work. I think Pop has so much stress in his life that he doesn’t understand. He knows his man is getting worse.
We came home for a nap. At least Ky is napping. I’m going to write. We were supposed to visit with three separate friends today but I don’t have the energy. It’s a gorgeous day outside. I’d sit on my deck if I had one. Instead I’ll imagine McB’s, BCB’s, Merry’s and Louis’. Good choices all
71. theresa | September 1st, 2008 at 11:52 am
So glad it wasn’t as bad as you feared! Is there someplace less overwhelming that you could meet next time? Poor puppies. So much riding on this.
72. CMS | September 1st, 2008 at 12:52 pm
I did suggest next time we go somewhere quieter. The man has mobility issues but I did offer to pick him up with my parents’ van as Dad made a ramp for Mom’s scooter. OTOH, once school starts back up tomorrow it will be much quieter down at the beach. We could have gone an hour earlier as well but I wanted to run Ky first. He was tired and behaving until we reached the park.
The thing is I suspect the best solution for Pop is my friend Kate’s parents but his owner doesn’t know them. It’s taken me ten months to get him to meet me outside of Petsmart. I doubt we have that kind of time for him to warm up to her parents. I’ve got about four plans in mind here. There is no need for that dog to be put down. I think he’s starting to agree with me. Thank Bob!!
I’ve decided to write for an hour then take Ky outside to play in the yard while I sit beside the pond and read. Today was my first trip to the beach since Oregon. I need to relax more
73. RSS | September 1st, 2008 at 3:20 pm

Mary-LOL
I’m ba-a-a-a-ack!
I had a wonderful holiday with the GAM. Loved Kentucky and Indiana and Ohio. In Ohio we stayed two days in Wapakoneta to just rest and relax. We went to the Neil Armstrong Museum. If you are ever in the area that is one museum you should visit. It is the history of flight from balloons to the present. It is fascinating.
Oh, did I mention that we spent a wonderful two plus hours with a certain lovable, loving, sweet, CB who even shares her darling Max with us, although he was not present at the time. Our guided tour of Wapakoneta was really interesting. What a lovely town with very old style homes, which are well maintained to the very new. I loved it.
Columbus Indiana is a beautiful city that has done well to recover from that terrible flood. There are a lot of very new beautiful buildings, each designed by a different well-known architect. Cathy and Bryan were great tour guides. We had a lovely time with Cathy’s family for the two nights we were there. They are good people and great fun.
Bryan is alive and pretty well although suffering from poison ivy from helping a friend in his garden, I think he said. He says he will drop in soon as I told him you all were worried about him.
Kentucky…well it was great. We stayed there for five nights and loved it. The people were so kind and friendly. We were busy every day and watched the Olympics every night but the coverage was only of the Americans so we had no idea how our people were doing. Rant over.
I had a Mint Julep at Churchill Downs and spent lots of money. We went to the Kentucky Horse Park for the day and it was terrific. What a place. Even got to pet some horses there. The third day we went to the Kentucky State Fair (so nice of them to hold it when we went there). That was fun. The quilts were beautiful. I think I told you before that we saw a cow I had never seen before…a brown Swiss. That must be were Swiss Miss gets its chocolate milk. okay bad joke. There was no blue grass because it was so dry all the grass was brown. The fourth day we went to the Louisville Slugger museum. That was interesting too. We got our DS a bat and a ball for DGS.
Most of all I loved the people I met. Everyone was so friendly and kind. Every time DH took my scooter in or out of the van someone offered to help. One man got soaked to the skin jumping out of his warm car to help in a torrential downpour even though DH said he was okay.
People sure are interesting aren’t they? I think I told you about the lady telling me to use Sweet Oil for my ear ache as her Pappy always used it, honeychile and it took the pain away. So I bought some and then DH said laughing, “Do you realize that you just bought a small bottle of Olive Oil?” Nope, I didn’t.
BTW the ear ache….it’s TMJ according to the specialist. It hurts like HE double hockey sticks to quote Mcb. His remedy doesn’t seem to be working either. He said to call him in two weeks if it wasn’t better, and he didn’t think it would be, so then he would give me Botox injections. They’re very expensive he says but they work. This is what Botox was initially intended for. All I know is that I have a very bad ear ache and sudden onset shooting pains. Not fun.
Going out to eat with my DD now. She is terrific. The house looks wonderful. BTW we hired someone to do the work but DD was in charge and she also helped. We now can sit on our front porch and enjoy the outdoors. Unlike Louis we don’t have roadrunners but do have a rocking chair. Lovely.
Sorry this was so long but it was a long trip.
76. Mary | September 1st, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Scopie!Sorry, meant to say Anony! Welcome back! We missed you. Glad you had such a wonderful time. DD was working pretty hard there; please make sure she puts her feet up and relaxes on the porch with you!BoTox? I’ll keep my fingers crossed it does the trick.
We don’t have roadrunners here either. Got side-of-the-roadrunners instead.
Bryan? Yeah, I always worry about Bryan… ba dum bum
77. GatorPerson | September 1st, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Thanksgiving dinner went well. The evening not so good. DD#2 and I ended up at the emergency room from 1:30 AM til 7:00 AM. A quick virus plus dehydration caused lots of nausea and gagging, some pain in the abdomen, lots of throat pain from throwing up. Symptoms were really confusing me.
The emergency room is for people who “play the game,” not for people like us who needed an emergency room. I had to get firm more than once as DD#2 was bypassed for those I overheard plotting to get to the top of the list first. I guess they had a frequent flyer emergency room card. A liter of saline, a scootch of anti-nausea, and she’s feeling much better. Fair amout of Gatorade. Now she gets to fly back to CA tomorrow via Dallas. Hopefully the pilot can negotiate the hurricane ok with her health still on the fragile side. But she has been able to spend quality time with her DGM. I can’t say our time this morning at the hospital was quality, but maybe it really was.
Do I ever need some sleep!
78. RSS | September 1st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Thank you for sharing your trip with us Scope. It sounds like it was great. LOL at the sweet oil. I remember that from when I was a kid. At least she didn’t tell you to put a roasted onion in your ear. Another home remedy. I had problems with TMJ. The combination of short term valium at night and doing relaxation exercises helped. I got fitted for a mouth guard but never had to use it.
Was just sitting on my porch drinking a glass of wine thinking of you Louis. No wildlife appeared (except for flies and mosquitos but the bird and insect life made a lovely chorus as I sat and looked out at my little bit of world. Despite our drought Virginia is very green unlike CA at this time of year. My sedum Autumn Joy is beginning to show it’s color and the crepe myrtles are in bloom. What we get to watch most is the native Amtrak trains rushing by across the street from us. Luckily I’ve always been a train fan. No rocking chairs at the moment Scope but very comfortable wicker.
LOL Mary. After traveling with McB’s friend’s GPS, I often say “At the first available light make a legal U turn.” But we didn’t get off course. Oh no. The lady in the box gets upset if you take an alterbatuve route because traffic is backed up.

Mcb-she didn’t say to heat the oil, just to put it in my ear with a cotton ball. I did the whole trip with sweet oil and a cotton ball in my ear. Just ask Wapak.
I just loved the way people talked in Kentucky. I spent some time talking to two ladies in a restaurant who said I had such a funny accent. It made me LOL y’all.
I don’t know if I told you about the scroller on the bus that first read “Louisville”, then “Looieville”, then “Luahville” then just “Louville”. I guess they were covering all the bases to make sure people got the right bus.
I want to go back because I feel we missed so much. There just wasn’t time to see everything. We did see “My Old Kentucky Home”. I know I told you about that and leaving my mark on Kentucky. Lordy, Lordy how I fretted about that. If anyone asks you if you know a little old, gray haired lady riding a red medical scooter deny all knowledge.
Hope all is going well with all of you.

In my younger days we lived about a quarter mile from the Santa Fe depot and tracks…loved the whistles with changing pitch and the train sounds. When a long freight train was just starting up, the “HUFFS” from the engine were enough to rattle the windows.
My favorite on the deck is a wicker rocker.

Well, ACD weekend is over once again. My bro, his DD, DS and SIL flew in. My mom was sooo glad to see them. A! acted all shy around them. Said, “NO.” she didn’t want to ride in the plane, she is too scared. But she was the only one of the kids who wanted to watch them take off. She was still shy at the airport. Did even want to sit in the plane. Then, DB started the plane and she squealed and said “He’s driving it.” And then just jabbered on. About how when she’s big she’s going to fly his plane. My DSis told her that he knew how to teach people to fly planes and A! announced to all that he was going to “learn her to fly his plane” when she got big. When we got back to the house, she told everyone how he wiggled the wings to say goodbye “for ME”* My bro is not going to believe any of this. I doubt he believes how she talked about his plane before…since she wouldn’t talk when they were there. She did say “those boys” (his son and SIL) were “too big and scary loud.” After she told the boys about it, N! said “You mean he has his OWN plane?!!” I told him, if he hadn’t spent all of his time when they were there playing video games, he might have heard that. And I have talked about it before. E! said “Yes, Gramsey told me that.”
I don’t think you got close to me since you went from Columbus, IN to Wapak, though.
My mom has been really sick for this round of chemo. I think that’s one of the reasons my bro came and brought the others. Now we need to get the California contingent to visit her.
I spent part of the day on the deck in a wicker chair too. My mom’s deck has room for one smallish chair and a plant so no rocking chair. I want a BIG old-fashioned porch with a porch swing and lots of rocking chairs.
Like on the farm….
Scope, glad you liked Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. INd. and Ohio, or at least NE Ind and NW ohio are my part of the world.
Well this is getting out of control, so hugs to all and sundry (even if sundry doesn’t want one)

When my cousin and I were kids we’d put a penny or a dime (they were still all silver then) on the train track so that it would run over the coin and flatten it out. Strange that the coin would be exactly where we left it. You’d think it might get flung off as the various wheels went over it.
Then we’d go get one or more of the cull watermelons dumped at the depot and whang them down on a rock to split them open and eat the hearts only. Then we’d go get the rotten eggs the hen had laid and sat on for long enough that they hadn’t hatched and never would. Throw the eggs at the Spanish bayonet plants, aka yuccas. Then we’d go pick blackberries so my aunt would make me a blackberry pie. She made the bestest pies in the world. Crusts on the bottom and the top. Then pour on the cream from the cow. Did I mention they lived in the country?
Sigh! Going to walk around the historic old town here for a couple of hours with DD#2. Then go get her Bojangles fix, and then she’s off to CA. Sigh!

i take a few days off and look at all I miss.
Welcome back Scope!
GP hope DD is better.
CC hope nothing happened.
McB do you have your car back yet?
Had a nice weekend. Lately any time away from work is nice. But this weekend involved the Peach Festival, farmer’s markets, art fairs, barn (garage) antique sale in a neat but practically see-through 200-year-old house in BFE where I bought my first JAK for $1, 85% off shoe sales, dinner with friends, dinner with the parents, sleeping in, and absolutely nothing resembling work. Which meant no laundry and no writing, but oh well.
Hope all is well!

When we’d visit my GPs (not her) during the summer, sometimes we go up into the mountains and pick wild huckleberries (blue berries to the flatlanders) and blackberries. Gram would take what we brought back and bake them into cakes and pies.

GP- so sorry about the post-Thanksgiving upset, I’m glad you’re both feeling better. Emergency rooms are often places about which one feels, “I am not well enough to endure this!”. I’m sure you were very firm.
Scope - so happy you’re back and had a good time - apparently good enough for several different identities!
I spent most of the weekend flaking out. I could’ve been productive, but I wasn’t. But I had a fine time at Jungle Jim’s - I got several types of fancy chocolate, including a couple of different Valrhonas, the Green and Black’s Maya Gold I’ve been missing, some milk chocolate covered honey comb (not necessarily fancy, but imported from England), and several other fun things. I totally can’t afford to go there very often though!
It never occurred to me that huckleberries and blueberries were the same thing, but apparently there is some overlap in naming, and they are certainly in the same genus. I had thought that the European “bilberry” was also a blueberry, but apparently they, too, are similar but not identical.
So, since I’ve learned something, can I go home?
OK, there probably are still some things I could usefully do here, so maybe I should do them.
Oh, I also bought orange twists at Jungle Jim’s - like red vines (not licorice), only very orange-y instead. Which is good, because I have no other snacks in my desk drawer! I should bring in some of the chocolate (which I currently have stored in the basement, because it’s been getting sadly hot in my apt.).
I quite like the organic black seedless raisins, too - they’re way bigger than regular raisins, and almost disturbingly black!

I’m working my way through the comments, but thought I’d better check in first. So I’ll report in, then catch up on comments.
The foot is doing much better. It did get worse on Friday, and was very swollen, but mostly I was very sleepy. Even without the anti itch/sleeping pill I was very tired. Took 3 naps. We went up to the family cabin for the weekend, and I mostly just took it easy. It was feeling better on Saturday, and the swelling started coming down on Sunday. I also had much more energy on Sunday. I had gotten a skin rash (hives) all over that was probably a reaction to the toxin, and that is slowly receeding too. I can now wear shoes again without limping. The spot is healing nicely.
And my copy of the Jayne Castle book arrives today. Yay! Now back to comments.

Hugs cc. Hope all is getting better.
KL glad your foot is healing. Taking it easy is a good idea.
I just came from the dentist who thinks the ENT guy doesn’t necessarily know about TMJ so he is sending me to an Oral Surgeon who now only does Oral Medicine. They want to see what he says before any more changes are made in my teeth. Fix this problem first he said. Works for me but in the meantime I am contacting my own doctor to see what he says about all of this. If it’s not one thing it is another.
cbpen-hope mom has a better time soon. Sending big hugs.
Hope all goes well for everyone. Hang in there Wapak. We love you.
What a great place this is is right. We can rant or whatever.
98. K.L. | September 2nd, 2008 at 1:30 pm
I’m caught up now, but not sure where to start on answering comments.
First, thanks everyone for your good thoughts. And I send mine in return for all who need it. I’m glad Gustov didn’t do the damage it could have.
My DH took some lovely pics of the hikes he went on while I propped up my foot. I put one on my blog, and will probably add more in the next few days. If you like trees, check it out.

KL - I’m sorry you didn’t get to take that walk -I loved the photo! I hope that your husband doesn’t mind that I’ve now made it my desktop wallpaper, in place of the generic Windows grassy field…
So many errands to run (Including picking up some CB-recommended books at the library) - but it’s so hot! We’ll see what I’ve got the fortitude for.
I wish that there were a nice bookstore that had a good romance section nearby! There are two that I want that have come out in the past couple of weeks, and I may have to go the Amazon route for them. Now I just need to remember to bring in my gift certificates…

I wrote a list as I went through the comments.
(((BcB))) for the sucky week last week. This week will be better.
Btuda-congrats on the asst. mgr. job!!!
GG-How was your weekend with beau? How goes the apt hunting?
K.L.-glad to hear that the spider bite is getting better
(((Lou)))-just because
(((cbpen and mom)))-hope the next round goes better
Scope!!! Welcome back!!! We missed you. sorry to hear about the ear and the jaw.
GP-I hope nobody else catches the bug.
I’m still here. Been busy. Dh has been informed that he will (possibly) be going back to D.C. Tentative date of departure is 9/8. We won’t know for sure until the 3rd or 4th. We also have possible trips planned for Oct, Nov and Dec. So, knowing that, I dropped my campus math class and signed up for an online class instead. I can’t leave my kids alone until 8 at night 4 nights every two weeks while DH is gone.
I am going to the highland games this weekend (Fri and Sat) in Estes Park with my sil. Lots of men in kilts!!!! =D I’ll take pics!! I’ll have to pack DH when I get home.
I told DH to tell his boss that to make it up to me…he can plan a trip for Gerry to D.C. July 11-16 next year….LOL That is three of my trips this year that have either overlapped my trips or come very very close.

102. CC | September 2nd, 2008 at 2:43 pm
scope- glad to see you survived
K.L. glad to hear the foot is getting better
GP- ERs suck in general and on a weekend like this they double suck
went to a colorado rockies baseball game yesterday- BF, one of his sons and one of my spare kids- the rockies have bleacher seating in far center field called the rockpile and seats are only $4 each- a nice way to take kids who want to go but don’t really want to follow the game-
did a little crafting- hit the goodwill in denver friday and picked up some wool sweaters- dyed one that was natural using blue kool-aid- easy peasy and a really nice color- think i’m going to go find the pink lemonade for one of the other sweaters- or maybe use both and make a splotchy thing, hmmmm

eidlhe-you win the chance to comment another day.
Beautiful pictures KL. I loved the pinks of the sunrise and the sun coming through the trees was an old time memory boost for me. Thanks.
104. Scope Dope CherryBomb | September 2nd, 2008 at 2:52 pm
BTW on topic I forgot to mention that I was looking through my desk for something last night and found some very old pictures of me when I was about 4. What a pretty little kid I was says she with much humility…not. I had forgotten that my cousin had found the pictures in his mother’s old photo album and copied a whole bunch for me. I had put them in the drawer under my copier paper and forgotten them. That was about four years ago. I guess I should do something with them.

SCOPE!! Hey - I’m so glad you had such a good time… but I’m sure sorry to hear about the ear and jaw. TMJ is no fun - so I hear. I had a friend who had it, and it was pretty painful. Take care of yourself!
eidlhe - you sound like a really busy woman!!
K.L. - so glad the foot is finally getting better!! Sounds like it was a bit icky for a while!
GP - I sure hope your DD feels better. ER rooms are just so… inattentive. I guess they are overwhelmed - but it’s a good thing you were there to make certain appropriate care was given!!
106. K.L. | September 2nd, 2008 at 3:12 pm
TT, feel free to take a copy for your desktop. I have it on mine too.
Scope, so glad you had a good vacation, but I wish you were easier on your poor body. Hope you have a quick recovery and that your ear heals up quickly. I liked those sunrise pics too. One of them will be my next desktop background.
