FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (with answers, even)

Q. Why do I see only one comment?
A. Because we have a (temporary) problem.  For now, in order to read the comments, click on the Post Title.

Q. Why can’t I write a comment?
A. See the answer above.  Click on the Post Title and scroll to the bottom to add your wit and wisdom.

Q. Do I need to register/login?
A. No.  We welcome all.  If you are interested in reading posts and commenting upon them, you may do so without registering.  Authors (of posts) must be registered and assigned an Author status.

Q. Do I need to stay on-topic?
A. ::uncontrollable laughter:: Only if the post has been tagged with an On Topic category heading.  Even then, it’s still to be seen how well that will work out.  So far, no posts have been so designated.

Q. Why do I get an error page when I (fill in the blank)?
A. Because we built this site from scratch rather than using a template and we went live before we were really ready.  E-mail me at bryanjweitzel@bjwcreations.com and explain what you tried to do and what it did instead.

Q. I’ve clicked on the Post Title as you suggested, why can I only see ## comments?
A. Non-Explorer browsers have some sort of limit on page sizes.  We’re not sure why or how this works, and we’re not sure if there is a setting you can change to correct this.  As further information becomes available, we’ll update this answer.  For now, use Explorer, the spawn of the devil.

Q. I’m registered as an Author and it’s my turn to post.  What do I do?
A. Click on the Author link in the bar above (but wait until we’ve finished writing it).

Q. How can I become an Author?
A. E-mail me at bryanjweitzel@bjwcreations.com and tell me you want to be an Author.

Q. How do I get the smiley faces in my comment.
A. Emoticons (that’s what they’re called) are combinations of characters that are automatically translated into graphics.  We have the translation routines turned on for the basics.  If you try one, and it doesn’t work, it will probably still be recognizable.

Here are some common combinations (remove spaces; noses are optional):

: - ) = :-)      : ) = :)
; - ) = ;-)      ; ) = ;)
: - ( = :-(      : ( = :(
8 - ) = 8-)     8 ) = 8)
: - D = :-D    : D = :D

If you see one posted that you like, hover your cursor over it and it will show you the combination used.  If there are some that you know about or find that you want to list here, let me know.

Q. How do I do those fancy HTML thingies?
A. To start, HTML tags come in pairs.  For every one you open, you must close it using the corresponding ‘/’ command.  Here’s a short list of HTML tags (in all cases, you must remove the space after the < 's and before the >’s):

HTML: < i >your text here.< /i >
Gives: your text here.

HTML: < b >your text here.< /b >
Gives: your text here.

HTML: < blockquote >your text here.< /blockquote >
Gives:

your text here.

This next one is a little more complicated.

HTML: < a href="http://cbbarandgrill.bjwcreations.com/” >click here< /a >
Gives:

Notice that the only text that shows up is “click here” (this text can be anything you want).  Inside the quotation marks must be a URL (the address of the link, including the http:// part).  If you prefer, you can type the URL and it will automatically convert to a link, but in that case it won’t appear as a natural part of a sentence.

Q. How do I put a picture in my post?
A. See this post to learn how.

Q. I have a question that’s not here.  How can I get an answer?
A. E-mail me at bryanjweitzel@bjwcreations.com and ask.  If you think it should be on the FAQ (maybe because that’s the first place you looked for answers), let me know.
